Apricot Periwinkle African Shell Necklace
Usually periwinkle shells are…well, periwinkle colored! I found this apricot beauty while walking along South Africa’s shores. The shell is exactly as I found it, except for the hole I bored into it to make a bail. It has the most luscious warm shades of apricot. The tip of the shell and in a couple of other places, the color has worn away and what’s left is white, shiny and luminous, like a pearl.
I’ve combined lots of freshwater pearls, glass seed beads, silver Bali spacer beads, and two carnelian heart beads to create the necklace. I handcrafted the clasp.
The necklace is strung with nylon coated stainless steel for strength and durability.
The shell measures approximately 3cm x 3cm (just over 1 inch around).
The necklace measures 46.5cm (18 ¼ inches), and can extend to 54cm (21 ¼ inches).
Thank you for looking! :)
