Bead & Wire Earrings

by zoraida
(patchogue, ny)

I recently won some free beads from Magpie Gemstones. Free, one of my favorite words! Some of these were small, Pineapple Jasper rondelles that I was not sure what to do with. The unusual, yellow green color was not something I have used before and didn't know what to combine it with.

I finally decided to make earrings with that single color. Then I created another pair combined with jasper, turquoise and carnelian. I liked the simple, easy to do, design so I made a third pair of just carnelian.

It turned out to be a tutorial which I posted on my blog:

Bead and Wire Earrings Tutorial.

So here are the earrings I made. I'm thankful for the free beads and the challenge they offered.

Bead and Wire Earrings Tutorial
by: Rena

Fantastic earring project, Zoraida! Thank you so much for sharing your tutorial with us.

I especially like your earrings in the third photo above - the colors are wonderful together.

Also, I wanted to say that your tutorial is beautifully photographed! Gorgeously sharp, big, clear pics that show exactly what to do and where everything should be during the process.

You make it look effortless to juggle a partly-made earring, a camera timer, and tools - all while holding perfectly still for the photo! :)

Of course I had to run over to your blog to see how you created those fantastic earrings! I love wire work but it is only something I do for fun for myself right now.

Going backwards....I love that you put your website up "warts and all." My thinking exactly. All of what we do is a process and can't be done until we commit to something....se we can start to change it...LOL!

I love that you mention Rena's book among the others that taught you so much. Rena's sites and publications have also been in instrumental in my my jewelry making journey.

And of course first and foremost your tutorial on your dynamite earrings....wow, so nicely done that even I understand what to do right off the bat!!! Cannot wait to make a pair of earrings!!

Thank you SO much for sharing your wonderful design. Congrats on winning the beads...and I think we "won" right along with you!

Thank you

Thank you so much Rena and Maryanne for the wonderful comments and for checking out my blog!

It was a bit difficult taking the photos while holding the earring, especially when I was trying to hide my hands as much as possible. I really should have prettied them up a little but I didn't even think about that. Some of the photos were a little blurry but I'm getting better at that. (I have new glasses so I can actually see).

Maryanne, it's so nice of you to look through my blog and comment on my website as well. I've been putting off publishing it until it was "perfect" but decided that might never happen. I'd love to see what you do with my tutorial!

Perfection.....LOL!!!
by: Maryanne Murphy

Hi Zoraida,

Yes, I think we all wait for perfection to happen until we do something.

I know for me that it's a throw back to my jewelry which to me has to be technically perfect to offer for sale. But so much involved in this jewelry sojourn of ours happens during the journey towards "perfection" and we will never get anywhere without exposing our warts and all:)

I am hoping that I will be able to play with wire and follow your tutorial sometime next week, and will post my humble and probably no where perfect try here. Again, I thought your photos wonderful. I need new glasses too, but they look perfect to me!

Have you thought about selling this as a tutorial? Seems that more and more people on AF and Etsy who are selling now a days are selling kits and tutorials. You may want to sell the tutorial only in PDF format and a kit with it and wire and beads for someone who may want to try this out.

Very Fun!

I really like your style and the tutorial is great! I have made similar earrings but I think yours have more personality and are so fun! Thanks for sharing them!

Love your work
