Antique Victorian button, backed with a front clasp
All of my jewelry centers around antique buttons, dating from 1880 - 1910. Most of them were made in Victorian England.
The workmanship and detail are unlike anything that you see today. . . really astonishing!
The Victorians had beautiful designs and would also make picture buttons using fairytales, opera scenes or cityscapes.
They used real materials like brass, Mother-of-Pearl, enamel, and glass.
This button is a pewter bird and dragonfly.
It is overlaid on celluloid that looks like wood.
The necklace is strung with quartz and gray fresh water pearls.
All of the buttons are set in sterling silver clasps that fasten in the front.
