Carnelian, Copper, Spirals and Links
by: Sonja and Janae

Very pretty and love the touch with the copper spirals. It really adds a unique touch.

copper spirals

Zoraida, I always like your copper work. Thanks for the tip about step pliers, I've looked at them but not bought. I haven't heard of bail making pliers, but I would like some of those, so will check out both of them this week.
Your funky moods are really quite useful aren't they, if you come up with these little beauties. Do you find the copper dulls and looks a bit sad after time? Do you keep it polished?
This neckalce is very warm looking and lovely.

Thank you ladies

Thanks for the great comments ladies.

Kate, step pliers are very convenient for making loops and jump rings of a consistent size as are bail making pliers. These are bigger and great for jump rings as well.

My copper is sometimes oxidized, sometimes left natural but I always coat it with either clear nail polish (small areas) or spray, triple coat, high gloss, fixative. That keeps it the same for a very, very, long time.

I always store my pieces in zip lock, plastic bags and advice my customers to do the same. I have copper jewelry that has been stored this way for years without any change in color or shine.

The spray (Krylon) dries quickly and leaves a nice smooth feel to the metal. The odor evaporates quickly if left to dry in an open, well ventilated space.

Toasty warm

Zoraida, I love the warmth of this piece. The copper is wonderful with the glowing carnelian.

I think you have a great idea - creating all sorts of links, findings and doodads during creative down-times. What a treat to have a bucketful of fabulous designer components waiting for you when your jewelry-making muse comes calling again!

This necklace would be spectacular worn against its complimentary color of turquoise!
