I love painting with oil paint. I painted big landscapes, big trees and I sold quite some of them.

But this summer I decided to start making tiny oil paintings for the purpose of wearable art, like necklaces, brooches and earrings.

This tiny tree I painted on a tiny piece of linen and glued to this interesting bronze Turkish pendant.

I use vibrant colours oil paint and I use it thick to make the tiny painting lively.

The miniature painting is varnished for protection.

I love painting trees. Their endless variations, colours, sizes inspire me a lot. My name is "Van den Boom", in English: "Of the Tree". I love my name.

I hope you enjoy my contribution.

Thanks for watching. You can see my other pieces of wearable art at

Miniature Painting Jewelry
by: Rena

Beautiful artistry, Nancy - and what a great way to offer your paintings to a different audience. I love how you've framed this painting to make it a miniature work of art.

Your vibrant colors are gorgeous in this tiny piece.

Do you approach the design of these miniature paintings differently, compared to the larger canvases you've done before?

Loved hearing what your name means - trees have a special place in my heart too.

Painting Tiny
by: Nancy van den Boom

Hi Rena,

Thank you so much for the wonderful comment on my tiny colour tree oil painting for wearable art.
I like your question about a possible different approach when painting for wearable art or a bigger canvas.

In fact the approach of painting for a tiny pendant of a big canvas is the same to me: I want to make a vibrant painting with thick paint, and make the light play and reach out to the viewer's heart with the colours, the texture, the subject.

For a pendant, brooch or earrings I think of what will be nice to make as wearable art and this makes me think in an other way than for a painting for the purpose of hanging on a wall or put on a desk. The tiny painting in combination with a chain, a pendant or settings for earrings plays a big rol too in choosing the subject.

And from the technical point of view: for the tiny wearable paintings the brushes are quite smaller than for a painting of say 50 x 50 inches!
The variation in working so small and so big is keeping me going even more.

thanks again,

Nancy
