Copper Crop Circles

by zoraida
(patchogue, ny)

Copper wire necklace inspired by calligraphy.

Copper wire necklace inspired by calligraphy.

Copper wire necklace inspired by calligraphy. This necklace sits perfectly on the neckline. It all began with the pendant. Lots of fun, addictive wirework in copper!

Like most of my necklaces, this piece started with the pendant.

I wanted to create flourishes like those used in script style calligraphy which I adore and used to practice. I added my usual spirals and hammered wire, horseshoe style handmade chain and clasp.

I like the way it turned out. It sits perfectly on the neckline and commands a lot of attention.

Calligraphy in copper
by: Rena

Another fascinating copper masterpiece, Zoraida! The calligraphy influence is really cool - I can see it in the "flourishes" of the pendant.

I love that you give just as much design attention to the necklace part as you do to the pendant.

Also (as a person who loves anything mysterious!), your "crop circles" name for this piece really grabbed me! :o)

Copper swirls
by: Kate

Whoa, this is such a swirly piece, bold and beautiful. How do you get the copper Not to tarnish? I have made a couple of swirls but they darkened such a lot. These look bright and sparkly.

Thank you Rena and Kate

Thank you Rena and Kate for your comments.

The wire I use is not coated so it will tarnish over time. I simply clean it by soaking it in white vinegar, lemon juice, lightly brushing it with very fine steel wool (#0000) or wiping it with kethup. Whichever method I have available at the time. They all work well.

There is non-tarnish copper available though. I don't usually use it in larger gauges because I prefer to hammer my copper wire. Hammering will sometimes remove or damage the coating.

Great name, great piece

This necklace is beautiful, Zoraida! I LOVE copper and good wire work. The name is perfect too!

Thank you Lorraine and Rena

Thank you for the compliments on the name for this piece.

I actually have to give my husband credit for that. He looked at it and suggested "Crop Circles".

Originally, I was not too enthusiastic about it (probably stupid on my part). I couldn't think of anything better so I kept it. On occassion, HE is right!

Thanks Zoraida, for the recipe for cleaning copper and thanks fr tip on coated copper,as I want to hammer some clasps, not made yet but wil have a go at that soon.

Love the look

I love the bold look of this piece. It reminds of a vintage inspired piece. The cooper really gives it an old world look.
