Desert Sunset - Dog's Teeth Amethyst

Desert Sunset - Dog's Teeth Amethyst

I recently purchased this gemstone called Dog's Teeth Amethyst.

I was so intrigued by the name that I couldn't wait to get home and make something to set off the beautiful array of colors.

Swirled in the with the amethyst and other shades of purple are brown and tan.

This necklace and earring set is made with Smoky Topaz Swarovski crystals and gold spacer beads.

I love purple + brown together
by: Rena

I haven't heard of dog's teeth amethyst before - and like Dita, I can't help wondering how that name came about! :o)

These are lovely stones, with so many intriguing possibilities for colors to combine with them. I can see why you couldn't wait to create with them!

I recently discovered the wonderfulness of purple and brown together when by chance I hung a purple striped scarf next to a brown sweater - magic!

Thanks for sharing this lovely desert sunset jewelry set, Kathy!

More on Dog's Teeth Amethyst
by: Kathy

I don't know much about the stone, but in looking on the web I found that Dog's Teeth Amethyst is also known as Chevron Amethyst, and it comes from India. It's nickname is 'Breath of Life.' I wasn't able to find out why it is specifically called dog's teeth, though.
