Amazonite and Brass Pendant Bead
When I saw this oval amazonite pendant bead at a bead show last year, I feel in love with it. I love gemstones and like for them to take center stage in the jewelry I make.
This stone is a nice mixture of minty green and white, and depending on lighting and movement, appears to shimmer.
For awhile, I didn't know what jewelry making technique I wanted to use with it.
I visualized it finished in a few different techniques before deciding to wire wrap it in brass wire. The warm tone of the brass wire is a lively contrast to the cool amazonite gemstone. I think it's beautiful!
First, I handwrapped 24 gauge brass wire around a length of 20 gauge brass wire and then, freeform, I wrapped the wire around the top portion of the pendant.
To create more interest, I used 22 gauge brass wire to wrap a few coils together, creating a band.
The bail is created by working the wrapped wire through the bead's predrilled hole, forming loops around a pencil (which I used as a mandrel) and adding a gold fill 18 gauge jumpring.
I think this amazonite wire wrapped pendant bead is simple, yet elegant. It gets a lot of compliments. Not bad for my first try at wire wrapping!
