Flat Weave Chain Maille

Flat Weave Chain Maille

Flat Weave Chain Maille

I love to do Chain Maille and even make my own jump rings. I prefer sterling silver, but the first time I do any pattern, I use brass wire. I just buy it from the local hardware store and then make my own jump rings.

After I complete the chain maille project, I put it in a tumbler with steel shot to remove any hanging burs, polish, and work harden. (I throw a few pieces of my own jewelry in at the same time to give them a fresh polish).

The flat weave pattern is a little difficult to get started, I use a bread tie to start. Then you have to make sure you keep the rings laying in the correct direction as you add rings.

I love the flat chain look of this bracelet. Thanks for the little tip.

Beautiful chain maille work, Victoria! It looks so smooth and flowing. This piece looks like it would be a pleasure to wear.

What do you use for making your jump rings?

Also - I visited your Etsy shop and love your work there, especially your sea glass angels!
