Inspired by the vibrant style of artist Frida Kahlo
Frida was created to enter the International Society of Glass Beadmakers' Convergence II exhibit. It was a juried exhibit.
The challenge was to make a piece of jewellery based on a famous person - past, present or pretend. The designer had to make the beads.
I decided on Frida Kahlo, American/Mexican artist who was ahead of her time. She loved wearing large pieces of jewellery.
I'm pleased to say that Frida was accepted into the exhibit that toured the U.S. in 2010. It sold recently at a very exclusive gallery.
Convergence III is now accepting entries. I'm working on that one now!
I made the beads very large to reflect the Frida style and used colours that made me think of Mexico. I added hand-made copper bits and used crystals and coral beads. It's a fabulous piece and I'm very proud of it.
