Icon Series Black

by Lisa
(France)

I have always loved religious icons. Previously, I had done some soldered art pieces with my favorite Notre Dame icon and thought I'd like to give this same icon a bit of bling, but in a very renaissance sort of way.

I started the piece working around a large locket I had sitting around, without a CLUE what to do with it. I used a re-purposed watch crystal, some silver plated leaves and a large rhinestone I took off of a vintage hair ornament. The black glass rectangle is also from vintage stock. All other components are new vintage type items. I oxidized all of the pieces using hard boiled eggs (well the fumes)!

I am thinking I need to add a second layer of chain along side the black glass tube bead chain to strengthen this part up. Maybe it is just my imagination, but I feel it is too petite to hold the heavy locket. Surely just my imagination (or paranoia of losing the locket).

I am very happy with how this turned out. I will be sad when it sells.

Lovely

What a wonderful necklace. I am not sure that the chain is too petite for the locket from the way the picture looks. However I do not know how heavy the locket is either.

The pendant is lovely. Isn't the black tube length doubled? if so I'd leave it, it looks fine.

Oh, I love this - it's dreamy and interesting. Maybe this necklace is one you should keep for yourself (after all, you do have to advertise your wares!) :)

I've been seeing lots of great layered chain looks lately - I think you could find a just-right way to add a bit of chain that would provide extra strength as well as added style.

Thank you for posting this beautiful piece here!

This piece is very lovely. I like that you have added repurposed items! Rena's right...perhaps you should keep this for yourself!
