Some of the handiest devices I have in my studio are ICE CUBE TRAYS.

They are brilliant for sorting and storing beads, charms and findings. You can stack them.

And they are cheap!

Thanks so much for this cool tip, Alana! This would be especially great for people (like me!) who have to get out all kinds of components before narrowing down to the final choice!

Also for people who get inspired with a new design while working on other designs - you could just fill a new ice cube tray with your inspirations for the next project.

Fabulous idea. And with so many people opting for ice makers in their refrigerators, I see ice cube trays at the thrift shops all the time. Or the dollars stores.

This is great - and it's a nice way to store beads when teaching classes, too - helps students find colors/shapes easier.

And, when you can see all your options clearly laid out in front of you you're more likely to be able to create more freely and come up with better color combinations and designs!

My mom always kept her earrings divided up this way in her dresser drawer! She had 3 or 4 trays stacked in there!

Great idea for beads - and as others posted, it makes it so easy to lay them all out in front of you so as to have everything available when designing!

I think that's a really great idea except it would be really frustrating if it got knocked over! I have learned the hard way that anytime you leave beads out like that they need to be covered! A child, an errant ball, a cat, a clumsy husband, almost anything can and usually will knock all my beads over when I'm at home! I guess if you were to stack an empty container on top it would help to keep them all in. Maybe using some aluminum foil to cover it when you're done using it for the day? Just a thought!
