La Doña

She comes with a poem which I know that by publishing here (and on Etsy) will never be accepted by any publisher - but it goes with the necklace so...

Peace, peace
She sits in tranquil peace
Entranced by rouge glowing sky
With a mother's patience
Waiting -

Peace, peace
Cessation of strife
Every Mother's child safe
While blood red sunset
Blushes the clouds

Stitches include two variations of Ruth's Twist, a Russian variant of Peyote stitch, fringing and, (for the clasp loop and side dangles) standard Peyote stitch.

The majority of the beads are charlottes from the early part of the last century, but I have also used some modern faceted seed beads in size 15/0 and various Swarovski beads and bicones.

I love this piece and consider it one of my master works.

Your artistic, intricate beadwork blows me away - as does the poetry that accompanies this piece. They are beautiful together.

Which came first - the necklace or the poem?

I think when this amazing creation sells, it will be one of those that has to go to a good home in order for the artist to let it go.

The vintage charlottes really add to its presence.

Which Came First

The necklace came first though it was not entirely completed when I decided to write a poem for it. And then the poem came to me and then I worked it through.

I write poetry more or less the way I paint and do beadweaving: part inspiration part perspiration. :) Most of my poetry is somewhat dramatic, occasionally tragic. I once put together a folio of art and poetry and printed out exceptionally fine quality copies that I gave out as gifts for the Holidays.

I love giving and receiving special handmade things like that, where a lot of thought and creativity have gone into making a unique, personal keepsake.

I so understand about the inspiration and perspiration aspect!

Unfortunately, my natural tendency is to jump from one exciting inspiration to the next, without investing the perspiration to really bring very many of my creations to completion.

That's why I stand in awe of intricate beadwork such as the La Dona you've posted here!
