Lillie & Rose

Twin sisters remembered

Twin sisters remembered

Lillie and Rose were my husband's grandmother and her identical twin sister, who came over from England when they were just a few years old.

Although they each married and raised families, they were never far from each other throughout their lives.

To make this pin I used an old optical lens to encase a photocopy mounted on scrapbook paper and added an old button.

Beautiful girls, wonderful story

What a lovely way to preserve the memory of these sisters. I love that the photo shows them holding hands.

The antique optical lens is the perfect touch for this piece.

Thanks so much for sharing it with us, Joan!

My ancestors on jewelry, too
by: Ann Widner

Hi Joan! I think it's a wonderful idea to honor our ancestors by creating jewelry with their photographs. On my website and in my etsy shop, I have several domino jewelry pieces with my grandmother's and great aunt's photographs on them. (www.annwidner.com) Many times, our "old" photos just sit in drawers and go unseen. Using them in our jewelry work is a way for their beauty to go on living.

Thanks Ann! I just went to your website (amazing!)and am going back now to check out your blog. I inherited a suitcase full of late 1800's - early 1900's photos of my ancestors as well as my uncle's photo collection that spans almost 70 years (over 30,000 photos!).Your work inspires me to haul some of them out of storage and give them another look!
