Metal Clay with Beach Glass

by Diane

Silver waves on the beach

Silver waves on the beach

This was my SECOND attempt at doing metal clay. I'd just picked up some beach glass, which I really love, and thought about how I could combine them. I fired the silver separately and then glued on the bail and front piece.

Correction on the "beach glass"
by: Anonymous

I was the one who submitted this photo, and I should correct something: I was told yesterday at an art fair that this isn't beach glass, it's "tumbled glass" or "sanded glass," that beach glass has much more rounded edges and is done naturally by the sea.

I checked with the person I got the glass from, and sure enough--he tumbles pieces he can't use in his stained glass business. So it's not beach glass!

But I still like it : )

Sea Glass / Tumbled Glass
by: Margie

I have personnally found beach glass ON THE BEACH that has not "tumbled" to the point of having the roundness of a well-tumbled pebble from a stream. However, it's still beach or sea glass. That unfinished piece can be more exotically enhanced than the round pebble of glass. However, if one is "collecting" sea glass for value and trade, that opinion would change.

Made the bail

Thanks for your comments!

I made the bail out of silver clay, too. I wish the clay wasn't so expensive--I'd like to do a lot more.

Beach Glass NEW
by: Jude

It's beautiful; I had not thought of using other mediums with my metal clay. The MC design really suits the piece. Congratulations.
