Midnight in the Garden

My Mom loved wearing large jewelry with lots of glitz back in the 50's and 60's.

When she offered me some of her old jewelry, I jumped at the chance.

I added Lapis beads and Sterling to make this necklace using a setting of deep blue glass that was part of an old earring.

It was a good feeling to repurpose a piece of jewelry that my Mom and I both loved when I was a kid.

Sharon, I actually gasped "oooh!" out loud when I saw this gorgeous piece.

What an exquisite way to give new life to a beloved older piece of jewelry.

I love how the sterling silver spaces below the lapis beads really make this repurposed earring the star of the piece.

Hi Tanya and thanks for your nice comment. To answer your question, I cut the earrings back off and actually strung the beading wire through the tiny spaces in the bead's frame. The necklace has sold, so I can't look at it, but I think I recall adding some French Wire so that the beading wire didn't rub against the frame.
