(Bermuda)
I live in Bermuda where we have our famous pink beaches. Our Bermuda sand is made up of broken shells, pieces of coral and the calcium carbonate remains of other marine invertebrates. The pink pieces are particles of the shell of tiny single-celled animals called Foraminifera.
This little creature builds a bright pink skeleton full of little holes through which it extends pseudopodia (feet) and attaches itself to the underside of the reef.
I collect the sand from the beach and fill tiny 1" bottles with the sand. I wrap the bottles in either sterling silver or 14K gold-filled wire, the finished pendant is about 1 1/2". The tourist here love it and Bermudians send the pendants to their friends and relatives overseas.
