Silver and boulder opal

Silver and boulder opal

The most amazing things happen when you least expect them! This piece was created one day when I was trying to form a puzzle shape using a hydraulic press and a die.

Unfortunately I made a mistake in the way I placed the silver on the die and it came off center.

Rather than recycling the silver, I decided to try to reticulated the surface so that I could incorporate it into other jewelry pieces.

The heat from the torch started to create interesting textures and the parts that had been indented by the use of the Hydraulic press gave the piece sculpture like qualities.

Adding the boulder opal to the piece created extra interest and offered a strong sense of design.

I continue to experiment with the process and the best thing is that my Jewelry Mentor has asked me to teach her how to create this technique.

Your solution to the puzzle

Thank you so much for your kind words, Miriam - that makes my day! :o)

I love this interesting pendant - how we can still see the puzzle piece, and your inspiration add the boulder opal.

I enjoyed hearing about your creative journey through this pendant - the way you salvaged your experiment instead of scrapping it, and let it turn into its own design.

Thanks so much for sharing!

Happy mistakes!

Being new to beading and the variety and types of seed beads, I ordered Delica beads when I really needed seed beads. However, when I tried them on a design I had created (my Kite earrings as I have christened them), they worked much better than the regular seed beads! A wonderful creative mistake! You can always make lemonade out of lemons!
