Silver and boulder opal
The most amazing things happen when you least expect them! This piece was created one day when I was trying to form a puzzle shape using a hydraulic press and a die.
Unfortunately I made a mistake in the way I placed the silver on the die and it came off center.
Rather than recycling the silver, I decided to try to reticulated the surface so that I could incorporate it into other jewelry pieces.
The heat from the torch started to create interesting textures and the parts that had been indented by the use of the Hydraulic press gave the piece sculpture like qualities.
Adding the boulder opal to the piece created extra interest and offered a strong sense of design.
I continue to experiment with the process and the best thing is that my Jewelry Mentor has asked me to teach her how to create this technique.
