Polymer clay faux stones, in gold polymer clay bezel settings
This piece began as a challenge to the members of Aussiepolyclayers - an Australian polymer clay internet forum.
The challenge was 'faux stones' so, never having tried to make imitation stones from polymer clay, I entered the challenge.
Using the Carol Blackburn book, I made up cabochons of fake agate (onyx).
I was quite pleased with them, and even more pleased when they were voted the winner of the challenge!
But then came the question: what to do with them?
I put them aside for two months while I worked on other things and let ideas percolate through my mind.
Finally, I was ready to sit down and set them. I made the bezel settings from gold polymer clay, and also the small beads.
Once cured, I used Rub 'n' Buff antique gold to give a more aged feel.
Joining the small lengths of chain between each piece was a real pain, but worth it in the end.
I called it Queen of the Nile because I felt, and have been told, that it has an Egyptian feel to it.
