Rhodium jewelry is less common than pieces made from some of the other precious metals.
Rhodium is silvery-white and relatively rare - and it has the distinction of being the highest-priced metal.
Because of its hardness and its extremely high melting point, rhodium is rarely used in its pure form in jewelry making.
Instead, it's used as an alloy in palladium and platinum pieces to give them extra hardness and tarnish-resistance, or as a plating over white gold or sterling silver for extra shine.
Rhodium plating is known as "rhodium flashing".
