Unakite and Basketweave Necklace

This necklace started out while trying to find a different way to create a pendant from a stone donut. I wanted to play with a bail that would cover the center hole.

Although it's far from perfect, I was pleased with the results I came up with. I then got a little carried away and decided to make linked sections of basketweave wire with Unakite beads as stations.

The straight links were uncomfortable on the neck so I curved them into a scallop shape. That felt much better. I made a regular link type chain at the back so that it would drape better and not feel stiff.

The necklace evolved into this strange design which I sort of like.

I think you really accomplished what you set out to do, cover the donuts hole and a lot more.

The total design is quite stunning. Your weaving beautifully done and unique. I say you have a winner there.

I agree with Maryanne - the total design is stunning.

That's one of the things I admire about your work, Zoraida - you don't just design a pendant and hang it on a cord (which is what I usually do!). Instead, you also create a unique, artistic necklace that is an intrinsic part of the whole piece.

Thank you Maryanne and Rena. I'm just beginning to learn wireweave techniques so my work still needs tidying up. I'm glad it's not that visible (in the photos anyway).

Yes Rena, I do have a compulsion to create "The Whole Enchilada'. Perhaps it because I was an artist first, creating nature illustrations and portraits that I need to like the entire composition.

It's a compulsion/obsession that I also feel like I have to create just about every element in a design - findings and all. Someday I'll have to learn to cut stones.

I'm working on another donut-hole-covering type pendant right now. This one is green Jade.
