Where Do I Find Sapphire Beads?

by BoogieBeads Bridget
(New Mexico, USA)

My nephew (favorite nephew) asked for a pair of earrings for his girlfriend (first girlfriend - he's 15) with sapphires in them, because it's her birthstone.

HELP! I can't find any sapphire beads other than rondelles from Fire Mountain.

I found some others from Thailand but from a VERY dubious dealer.

Everywhere I look I find sapphire "colored" beads but not real ones, and I'd prefer something oval or elongated (vertically drilled) rather than rondelles or briolettes.

Sapphire bead sources

Hi BoogieBeads Bridget (love the name!),

Have you tried eBay?

I searched several of my favorite bead suppliers, and found mainly small rondelles and a few briolettes.

If all else fails, why not design earrings with a small stack of rondelles - or else the briolettes, which are always a pretty earring shape.

Try Rio Grande or Etsy.- also type in "sapphire beads" when you go to the Tucson Gem Show guide - GOOGLE it and look through the vendor list.Have found supplies that way- Good Luck!!

sapphires

I just saw some online at Magpiegemstones.com. Also, http://www.bluesapphirebeads.com/ in Toronto has stunning sapphires of all shapes and they are great people to deal with. I saw some drool-worthy strings of theirs at a recent rock and gem show.

Sapphires are definitely on my wish list at the moment!

Hi Bridget,

If you don't mind shopping internationally, you can try The Curious Gem here in the UK. Their web site is www.thecuriousgem.co.uk . I just ordered them, and their prices and bead quality is excellent.

I hope this helps.

Warm regards,

Lee

Hi Boogie Beads Bridget,

I also live in New Mexico and thought that perhaps you could fine sapphires at Mama's Minerals in Albuquerque or Santa Fe. Sorry, I couldn't find their phone numbers. There is also a gem store in Santa Fe on Baca Street called Natural Stones. Their phone number is 505-820-7764. Another suggestion is Southwestern Minerals on Central Ave.in Albuquerque. Their number is 505-268-6778.

I hope this helps. Good luck.

Jill

Great site for sapphire beads
by: Leslie

You can have a look at this site www.migem.com . Michelle, the owner, is very helpful and if you need smaller amounts of what is shown, she can sell them to you. I saw lots of different shapes (and colors) of sapphire beads as well as other gemstones so hopefully there is one that will work for you.

I recently bought a strand of carved sapphire leaves in assorted colors from Crystal Creations/ Beads Gone Wild shop in West Palm Beach, FL. Very pretty, nice quality, not cheap, but at a reasonable price.

Ebay is cheaper but you never know what you're going to get.

Good Luck!

Try the supplies vendors in Etsy or Artfire

Many jewelry artist sell also the beads they use in their jewelry (leftovers or as a side business). Their shipping fees are usually lower than most sites. Try searching with the word "gemstone" and under the "Supplies" category.
