Wire Wrapped Seahorses

These seahorses are by far the most commented pieces I do. This is a modified design (I wish I created it all by myself) which is actually pretty easy to do but looks very impressive in person.

The vintage bronze seahorses are the favorite of everyone but I think they look great in other colors too.

Update - see Kelly's new page here in the gallery: Wire Animals - Black Swan and Pink Flamingo.

Absolutely awesome use of wire! And I agree with Pat - all the better because they don't stray into being "cute". These must look very striking when they're worn!

Beautiful Work
by: Mechelle

My favorite one is the blue and silver one. If I may offer a suggestion, I think it would look even more stunning if you used liver of sulpher on the wire and buffed most of the color off. What would remain in the low points would really help to make the intricasy of the wirework stand out. Unfortunately LOS only works on bare metals that will tarnish over time like silver, copper and brass.

Sea

These are great water elements. I can picture the sea goddess wearing the green one. (My favorite).

I think I will try to patina some seahorses Mechelle. Have only used artistic wire so far but it's time to experiment. Thanks for the tip!

The WOW factor
by: Karen

Your seahorses are just awesome! Would never have thought of using wirewrapping to achieve this look. The title itself caught my eye, as anything to do with the sea fascinates me. It's probably why I have so many turquoise/aqua pieces in my collection.

WOW...

Thanks again for all the nice comments. You can also do swans and I did a flamingo using this technique. Will post some pics of them. The seahorses are the nicest tho :)
